Leírás
The Jewish Museum of Budapest is one of the major museums of its kind in Europe. Built as an annex to the Synagogue in Dohány utca in the capital, it was opened to the public in 1932. With the help of original documents, manuscripts and photographs, the exhibits present the history of the Jews of Hungary, and an outstanding collection of Judaica (cups, Rimmonim, Torah crowns, candlesticks, spice containers, and so on), textiles, as well as old illustrated manuscripts, modern paintings, statutes and medals, all works of 20th-century Jewish artists, are also in display.
The Introduction was written by Ilona Benoschofsky, then the director of the museum. Ilona P. Brestyánszky treats mosty the metalwork, Katalin F. Dózsa writes about the best textiles, Alexander Scheiber, the recently deceased world famous scholar, analyzes the illustrated manuscripts, and Dénes Deák acts as guide to the fine arts material.
The nearly 250 black-and-white and 35 color plates were photographed by László Szelényi.
